Broadway Corridor Clean Up Day 1

Our morning started on 132nd and Broadway (aka Ground Zero). What made today different was a year ago, we did not have all of these resources or agencies working together. The partnerships created over the past 18 months solidified our commitment to improving the quality of life. We are can officially say “We Are No […]

Special Update for Tuesday, July 11th, 2023

Clean ups will begin this morning on the Broadway corridor starting at 132nd Street and heading South to Compton Blvd. Crews from LA County Public Works, and Ocean Blue will be removing all the waste, and burned vehicles. With the help from Supervisor Mitchell’s office, the blocked fire hydrants and visibility issues around driveways will be addressed. All RV’s & vehicles have been advised they must move to allow 150 feet clearance around the fire hydrants and driveways. Those who do not adhere will be removed.

This clean up is a NON-Displacement. No one was asked to move or leave the area. Homeless outreach providers have been offering services & resources for the past three weeks. We will be out on the streets tomorrow and Wednesday with additional providers offering help to anyone ready to accept.

Sunday Update Another RV Fire

Sunday, July 9th an RV fire occurred at 153am on Avalon near Compton Blvd. We now have 5 burned out vehicles sitting on the streets in our business corridor. We have notified Supervisor Mitchell’s office, Dept of Justice Environmental Crimes Unit, and Public Works. Homeless outreach will be in the area tomorrow to assist with anyone impacted by the fire.

SPECIAL SATURDAY UPDATE.

Early this morning, an illegal dispensary using the name Gardena Gas Company was raided for a second time on Gardena Blvd in the Harbor Gateway. This particular location has long been a chronic problem for our community. The location sits within 150 Feet of the Boys & Girls Club, 300 Feet from Environmental Charter Middle School, 700 Feet from Gardena Elementary School. In addition, it is around the corner from our only Gang Intervention Program. Thank you to LAPD Southeast Station, Councilmember Tim McOsker & Staff along with Gardena PD for helping making this area safer.

Every Minute Counts.

Earlier this week, clean ups began along the eastbound 105 freeway easements between San Pedro Street to Stanford. These areas were hardcore crime riddled locations. Last week, the area on Avalon & the 105 suffered a homicide. The second homicide happened on Wednesday of this week in the same location. This area is less than two blocks from an elementary school and with 6 blocks of a middle school.

Finding Our Own Solutions.

We spend the majority of our days on the streets reporting the problematic locations and getting the resources to the area as quickly as we identify them. Homeless outreach has been the priority for the past three years. What we learned was the complicated jurisdictions created areas where there were very little to no resources targeting those locations in need of help. What seemed impossible three years ago has blossomed into a bi-weekly collaborative outreach event with agencies from throughout the City of Los Angeles, Unincorporated Areas and City of Gardena working in tandem.

Getting The Media Involved.

We are doing what we can to bring attention to current situation happening throughout the Unincorporated LA County areas of East Gardena, West Rancho Dominguez and Willowbrook.

The red carpet festivities brought out invited guest from throughout the Unincorporated LA County areas, Harbor Gateway and City of Gardena.

Broadway Corridor Clean Up.

Clean Up along the Broadway Corridor will begin on Tuesday, July 11th starting at 9am. The current plan is to remove all of the debris and piles of construction materials starting at 132nd & Broadway heading south to Compton Blvd. This is a non-displacement clean up. The county will be removing the burned RV’s and red tagging any vehicle(s) blocking fire hydrants.

An Update on the RV Pilot Program

The County of Los Angeles and Supervisor Mitchell’s office are still working on the details of the RV Pilot Program. As of this moment, they have not secured a location to place the non-working, unregistered vehicles. In addition, they are still working on hotels and/or motels for anyone wishing to be housed.
