Working Together To Clean Up Our Areas.

No Borders.
No Boundaries.
Working together is the only way we are going to have enough resources, manpower and support to solve the issues.
Last Friday, members from LA Sanitation were passing an area with a large amount of waste sitting on the sidewalk. They stopped and cleaned up the mess. Everyday, we are seeing more of this collaborative approach. Neighbors helping neighbors.
Homeless Outreach & Why It is Important To All of Us?

Ensuring everyone on our streets is seen and making the initial connection begins the healing process. Contact is made by myself, going RV to RV and asking what the people need in terms of services, medical help, and/or housing. I, generally start with questioning if they would use a dumpster to throw away their waste?
From this point, most are open to providing more information like name, phone number, etc. That information is then passed along to the homeless service providers. The work begins on a larger scale. Homeless outreach teams are deployed to the area and the relationship is created.
For our area, I have been actively following up with the service providers and their clients. Assisting in contacting local shelters checking on availability or finding additional resources for detox or rehab centers. It is ensuring those who are ready for the help are getting it. Our unorthodox approach has created positive results but has also been seen as overstepping our authority by some. Right now, it’s about ensuring everyone has access to help.
The Outreach Has Started In East Gardena/West Rancho Dominguez

The Outreach Has Started In East Gardena/West Rancho Dominguez. Individuals in a specific designated location are starting the process for Pathways to Home. These were individuals we began outreaching several weeks ago. As I write this email, we are sitting in the ER at College Hospital in Long Beach waiting on a bed. These are […]
Three Families. 9 Children. Two News Segments.

Last week, media outlets from KTLA5, ABC7, & Univision34 did a series of broadcasts from West Rancho Dominguez/East Gardena showcasing our ongoing issues from the environmental issues created by the RV’s, the crime and families living on our streets. We spent the weekend working to get resources to those families in the segments.
On Monday morning, we worked to get appointments with Harbor Interfaith in San Pedro so the housing process could begin. These are the efforts your Chamber of Commerce is doing to reshape our streets into cleaner, safer areas. Getting the homeless to accept services, removing the nonworking, unregistered vehicles, reporting & removing the waste and having the media showcase our efforts.

Business owners, residents meet with elected officials to discuss RVs cluttering streets in Gardena

Local business owners and employees are frustrated with the growing number of RVs housing homeless people and cluttering streets in Gardena.
A meeting between local law enforcement, business owners and elected officials took place on Thursday to discuss health and safety worries and potential solutions to the crisis that is starting to affect the daily lives of people in the neighborhood.
“They pull up in vans, RVs, trucks, whatever it is, and pull out their hoses and just dump all their waste,” said Ivan Montes, who works in the area. “It’s horrible…sometimes you can’t even work [because] the smell is so bad.”
Workers in the impacted areas say that the residents of the RVs are not the friendliest neighbors.
