Removing The Raw Sewage

During our clean up on Monday, we discovered a large amount of raw sewage on the street, on the sidewalks and in the gutters. We were able to identify 6 different RV’s that had leaking septic tanks or overflowing buckets under the vehicles. The Dept of Public Health has been notified.
Compton Blvd at Main Street.

Compton Blvd at Main Street has been a chronic location for the illegal dumping community. The waste is often so excessive that it takes out a traffic lane. For the past several months, we have been monitoring this location. Several businesses notify us (and the county) on a daily basis keeping us posted on the mess and/or clean up. The county is working on installing cameras at this location to mitigate the dumping.
On Monday, October 30th, we sorted through the boxes of waste. Uncovering thousands of outdated invoices, company checks and personnel files from two local business which ceased operation. We took the time to drive to the address in Carson and met with the current tenant. We were able to connect with the property owner and are now waiting for information on the business owners. Hopefully, we will have success and provide that information to law enforcement and public works for investigation.
Let’s Talk Raw Sewage.

One of our major concerns is the raw sewage on our streets, gutters and sidewalks. Reporting this specific issue can be complicated. Within the Unincorporated LA County areas, please use THEWORKS app. The app allows you to upload photos and will assign a tracking number. Researching the web today, we discovered quite a bit of out dated information on how to report and were redirected multiple times before reaching the correct department.
Public Safety.

This is how it started and why I came into the Unincorporated LA County Areas of East Gardena, West Rancho Dominguez and Willowbrook. Blocked, Inaccessible, Fire Hydrants often times with little water pressure.
The clean up on Monday, October 30th, and our area is still at risk. It makes absolutely no sense to me why this continues to be a chronic issue in our areas. Our business corridors are at risk.
Businesses don’t wait until you have to call 911 and the fire department has to bring water. To report a blocked fire hydrant,
Adding Spanish to Our Posts.

Getting our homeless involved in the clean up process. We have identified individuals that speak only Spanish and Korean on the street during this clean up. We will begin to add more posts in Spanish. In addition, we are working with several Spanish news outlets and radio stations.
Illegal Dumping & Why We Are Working to Prevent It.

Friday, October 27th, this individual decided to drop wood, bricks and other debris on 130th & Athens Way in the Unincorporated LA County area of West Rancho Dominguez. Fortunately, the local business had cameras and was able to capture the entire incident. Once we were contacted, we reached out to Penske Truck Rentals who provided us with the rental location. Emails were sent to Supervisor Mitchell’s office, Sheriff Robert Luna, Century Sheriff, Illegal Dumping at Public Works so that action could take place.
Fun.

We still manage to find the FUN in our communities by simply getting involved. Over the last four days, we participated in 5 Halloween Events at various locations including schools & parks. We donated candy to law enforcement agencies, provided pizzas for the parks and donated beverages to ensure no one went thirsty. Working together is helping to bridge the gap.
It Is A Circus On Our Streets.

Fires of any type especially those involving RV’s and/or passenger vehicles continue to be a threat to our streets, our infrastructure, and our environment. The video posted was created to showcase how crazy things are on the streets. This particular fire was caused by drugs. The owner of the RV was contacted and apparently is a tow truck operator. While I was out attempting to help the displaced female, the owner showed up.

We See It All.

The work that others do not want to do. The areas no one wants to explore. The complicated boundaries with confusing jurisdictions which have paralyzed our areas from law enforcement coverage are now on the radar. We are taking our elected leaders, our law enforcement partners into new areas so we can make them safe again.
