Wednesday, March 6th, Joel Grover from NBC4 ran a story regarding Mayor’s Bass’ promise to address the RV Encampments. We took Joel on a drive throughout the area to show him some of the hardest hit locations. During our segment, we met several of the residents living in the RV’s who indicated they were ready for help. Councilmember McOsker’s team had clean ups planned for Wilmington & Harbor Gateway North this week.

Cleaning Up Rosewood.

On Monday, March 4th, clean ups resumed along 135th Street & Broadway and 131st between Broadway & Main Street including Spring Street. These areas were overrun with rampant crime, dilapidated RV’s, Illegal Dumping, Compromised Fire Hydrants and stolen vehicles.

135th Street & Broadway became a safety concern for our community. RV’s, nonworking passenger vehicles, illegal dumping blocking sidewalks & fire hydrants and multiple fires next to the Phillips66 facility. We partnered with Robertson’s Ready Mix, Phillips66 for heavy duty equipment so we could remove all the waste. Universal Waste Services provided an endless supply of dumpsters to help us accomplish this operation. We asked those individuals living in this area to help with the clean up. This gave us an opportunity to help them get connected to services. We provided the HOST team with the names of those folks who were ready for the help. Six weeks later, we were able to successfully start the housing journey for a family of 6 and 4 individuals. 135th is now clean & safe. 7 RV’s were removed & destroyed. Century Sheriff has increased patrols in this area.

“Borrowed” Fire Hydrants Continue..

The Unincorporated LA County Areas of East Gardena, West Rancho Dominguez, Rosewood, East Compton continue to see fire hydrants being stolen. Apparently, vandals are recycling the hydrants. Should you see a missing hydrant, please contact Golden State Water at (800) 999 4033.

Rancho Dominguez Clean Up

On Tuesday, March 5th, Public Works began cleaning up in the Rancho Dominguez area. They started on Gladwick and worked their way east. Crews were able to remove trash from the streets. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department HOST team along with LAHSA provided outreach to those individuals living in the RV’s and along the streets. Deputies from Carson Sheriff Station provided additional coverage.

The March For Clean Streets Continues…

When they dump, we start our process to find them.

One more dumper caught and prosecution has started. 133rd and Broadway is a CHRONIC location for illegal dumping. Haulers, unmarked dump trucks filled with thousands of pounds of dirt, construction materials and trash often select this location. While we are waiting for cameras to be installed, we are sorting through the trash and finding where the stuff is coming from.

Where Were You?

Wednesday afternoon, February 21st, we partnered with TR Trading Company to host our Third Community Business Meeting for an update on the ongoing issues impacting our business corridor. Captains from both Century & Compton Sheriff, the LASD HOST team, Public Works, and Homeless Initiative were on hand to answer questions. We also invited candidates running for Supervisor & the District Attorney Office. We did our best to inform all businesses of the upcoming meeting by delivering flyers, sending emails and contacting each business by phone.

Why meetings like this are so important for business owners, property owners & residents?

Direct access to those who hear your concerns and have the ability to help.

More Clean Ups Are Coming.

Rancho Dominguez we have scheduled Clean Ups for Thursday, February 15th and Friday, February 16th starting 8am. Help is coming.

Our Story Continues.

Clean ups are just one of the ways we are doing our part to address the issues impacting our communities. Homeless outreach, getting them to the shelters and bringing in the service providers is happening on a daily basis. We are communicating the issues to all law enforcement agencies, our neighboring community leaders and public works and/or LA Sanitation. We are often on the streets before the sunrises to catch the dumpers in action.
