Neighborhood Councils are the closest form of government to the people. They are advisory bodies, who advocate for their communities with City Hall & the local Council Office on important issues like development, homelessness, emergency preparedness and chronic issues impacting the safety of the neighborhoods. There are 99 Neighborhood Councils representing each community within the City of Los Angeles. There are two neighborhood councils representing the community of Harbor Gateway. Harbor Gateway North has a boundary from the 91 Freeway to 111th Street between the East side of Vermont to the West side of Figueroa Street. To complicate the boundaries, the East Side of Figueroa starting Compton Blvd heading north, the first 30 feet belong to the City of Los Angeles and the remaining area belongs to the County of Los Angeles. This creates confusion for nearly every business along the East side of Figueroa.
